Grounding barefoot shoes – also called earthing shoes – combine two ideas: walking naturally as if barefoot and a conductive contact with the earth. Here you can find out what matters when buying.
1. Zero drop: no raised heel
In a barefoot shoe, heel and forefoot are at the same height. This lets your foot stand and walk as if barefoot. Look for the term “zero drop”.
2. Wide toe box
Your toes should be able to spread freely. If you have rather wide feet, choose a roomy model – at Wurzler™, for example, the Comfort 2.0. If you prefer something sportier, go for the Active 2.0.
3. Thin, flexible sole
A thin sole lets you feel the ground and moves with your foot. It should bend and twist easily.
4. The grounding function
Normal rubber soles insulate. Grounding shoes contain conductive elements – at Wurzler™ a removable insole with silver threads. On natural ground such as grass, soil or sand, this creates a conductive contact with the earth. For the best contact, wear the shoes barefoot or with socks with silver threads.
5. The right size
- Measure your foot length in the evening – that is when your feet are longest.
- Leave about 0.5–1 cm of room in front of your toes.
- Compare with the size chart.
6. A gentle transition
If you have been wearing cushioned shoes with a heel, introduce barefoot shoes slowly: short distances at first, then increase step by step. This gives your feet and calves time to get used to the new load.
7. Material, care and guarantee
A light, breathable upper is comfortable in everyday life – the Wurzler™ models are vegan and made of cotton canvas. Waterproof them before wearing them for the first time and clean them when needed, for example with the care & cleaning kit. All Wurzler™ 2.0 models come with a 12-month anti-hole guarantee.
